Get to Know the Story Behind TS Renovations

Twenty years ago, TS Renovations was just Taylor, a truck, and a willingness to work harder than anyone expected. Nine of those years have been spent building homes across Vermont. This is the real story behind how it all came together.

Where It Started

Taylor grew up in East Hampton, Connecticut, the kind of kid who was always outside, always moving, never quite content to sit still through a New England season. His first job was on a friend's family Christmas tree farm, cutting and hauling trees for customers each winter, the kind of work that tires you out and fills you up at the same time, and he never really lost the taste for it.

That appreciation turned into a career when he began training under a custom home builder in Connecticut, learning the trade properly over five years across a handful of developments, before that builder retired. Rather than move on to someone else's crew, Taylor started his own. TS Renovations was founded in 2006, and in its early years in Connecticut, the company built its name working alongside other builders, picking up whatever the job called for and doing it well.

The Move to Vermont

Taylor's family had already settled in Vermont, and after a few years building his own path in Connecticut, he decided it was time to be closer to them. Family has always come first for him, and in 2017, TS Renovations moved to Vermont too, without a single client, crew member, or connection in the state yet. He spent that first year working with a commercial builder in Vermont while he found his footing.

That same winter, he met Kelly. She was from Florida, and had just moved to Vermont herself that year, following family who'd made the move nearly a decade earlier. She was working as a real estate agent at the time.

The House That Started It

They knew early on they wanted to build a life together in Vermont, so they bought a fixer upper in Milton and made it their first project as a couple. Kelly brought a clear sense of what the home could become, and Taylor brought the trained hands to make it real. They didn't just update the place, they breathed new life into a house that had been forgotten, reworking the entire layout, raising it to finish the basement below, and reshaping the roofline with a front porch that gave an ordinary ranch real character. Their own sense of style went into every inch of it, inside and out, until nothing about the place looked forgotten anymore.

From there, they just kept going. Every project after that one got a little bigger, a little more ambitious, and the name TS Renovations started to mean something in Vermont too

Building It Together

In the early years, Taylor did nearly everything, meeting with clients, managing each job, and working alongside the crew he was building hire by hire, holding every project to a standard built to outlast. Kelly took on building the business itself: developing the company's presence and reputation in the community, forming relationships with clients and referral partners, and eventually contributing directly to the design side of projects, work she later formalized by becoming a certified CAD designer.

Kelly eventually left her real estate career to join TS Renovations full time, and along the way took a position at a local cabinet and countertop showroom, both to support TS clients directly through their material selections and to deepen her own expertise in cabinetry, countertops, and layout design. Many of the clients she worked with there became TS Renovations clients in their own right, and that experience shaped the design side of the company from the inside out.

As the company grew to three crews and stayed busy across Vermont, Kelly came back to TS Renovations full time for good. Today, TS Renovations is licensed and insured, a member of the Vermont Builders and Remodelers Association, and every project is backed by a 1-year warranty, standards built in those first years and held just as firmly today.

Twenty Years, Nine in Vermont

Twenty years in, we love the relationships we've built and the reputation that's followed them, and we're ready for whatever comes next. Finding work you care about, and pouring yourself into it every day with real determination, is one of the most rewarding things we've ever done, and we're endlessly grateful to everyone who's trusted us enough to be part of it.

Vermont welcomed us with open arms, and it's felt like home ever since. We want to keep helping the people around us build beautiful spaces, grow into who they're becoming, and lean into everything that makes this community the place we choose to build a life in. Our focus now is on building homes that feel right the moment you walk in, built to be sustainable and built to last, carrying that organic, grounded feeling Vermont has in every season.

What's next for us looks a lot like what's always driven us: reaching for the highest points ahead, while staying rooted in the quiet, grounded places we've built from.
